Web Summit 2022 recap: the future still goes to be born

On the first days of November, all eyes were on Lisbon. With a lineup of over 1,000 speakers and a busy agenda on tech trends and topics, Web Summit reached its maximum capacity with 71,033 attendees from 160 countries.

With a focus on AI, Web3, and DeFi, Web Summit 2022 was all about the acclaimed entrepreneurs, startup founders, and creators who change today’s reality with new-world digital and web technologies.

The Index outing to one of the world’s leading business conferences was a resounding success. Our little but fierce squad made up of Dan Chirita and Daniela Rusanovschi took over Lisbon by storm. We’ve pitched our remote hiring services, got a lot of leads coming, and negotiated serious partnerships with one of the world’s most promising startups.

The event also gathered startups, investors, speakers, volunteers, and other attendees to network, learn and discover the future of tech.

Is it a place to be? Definitely yes, but take a look at these facts and decide for yourself. Renowned as the “Glastonbury-for-geeks”, Web Summit is claimed to be the biggest tech gathering in the world.

This year, Web Summit sold out earlier than ever. Event organizers increased the space to its absolute maximum, stretching to 204,386 square meters (1,046 tennis courts). Also, a record number of startups and partners exhibited at this year’s event. For startups, the most represented industries were SaaS, Fintech, AI, E-commerce, and Advertising. Top partners included Figma, Stripe, AWS, Google, and Binance.

The Web Summit app

The Web Summit app is a super-helpful tool. You can schedule meetings, connect with c-suites, and pitch companies all in one place.

“The Web Summit app was a super helpful tool as it allowed me to build my schedule for the following days and connect with other attendees.”  Dan Chirita, Senior Account Executive at Index

At first, the scale of the event may seem intimidating. Nonetheless, it didn't feel claustrophobic, and the line to get a coffee was never longer than a couple of people. Choosing from over six hundred talks and events happening on 17 stages was not easy, but all of them were recorded and are available for attendees on the Web Summit’s app.

“Even with this brilliant Web Summit app, it wasn’t still easy to choose from stopping by company booths and dozens of great talks covered across 17 stages, not to mention the roundtables and other events happening simultaneously.”

Daniela Rusanovschi, Senior Account Executive at Index

Trending topics this year: Web3, DeFi, and AI

Over three days, leaders of countries, investors, CEOs, YouTubers, athletes, actors, activists, politicians, and many more influential figures gave their insights for the future.

The transition from Web2 to Web3 and the unlimited possibilities of the Metaverse, AI & DeFi were present in almost every industry.

The idea of a virtual world opens up various new opportunities for the Index.dev platform, as long as we have developers specializing in some of the most cutting-edge technologies like AI, Machine Learning, FinTech, and Blockchain.

Are you looking to get your project into the web3 world? We’d love to talk web3 hiring!->

This year, nearly 30,000 attendees (42%) were women. 34% of speakers were women – the same as in 2021. As well as this, there were nearly 400 women-founded companies among the startup division.
